Vitassay qPCR Pneumocystis jirovecii allows the qualitative and quantitative detection
of Pneumocystis jirovecii by real-time PCR in clinical samples. The product is intended for use in the diagnosis of P. jirovecii infections alongside clinical data of the patient and other laboratory tests outcomes.

Summary
Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) is a serious illness caused by the fungus
Pneumocystis jirovecii. PCP is one of the most frequent and severe opportunistic
infections in people with weakened immune systems, particularly people with HIV/AIDS.
Although people with HIV/AIDS are less likely to get PCP today than in recent years,
PCP is still a significant public health problem.
The following groups are at risk for P. jirovecii pneumonia: persons with HIV infection
with low CD4 count, persons with primary immune deficiencies, persons receiving
long-term immunosuppressive regimens, persons with hematologic and nonhematologic
malignancies, persons with severe malnutrition.
