Vitassay qPCR Carbapenemase-generating Enterobacteriaceae allows the qualitative detection and differentiation of the main carbapenemase-encoding genes (NDM, VIM, OXA, KPC and/or IMP) by real-time PCR directly from rectal swabs and from bacterial isolates of clinical samples. The product is intended for use in the diagnosis of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae infections alongside the patient’s clinical data and other laboratory tests outcomes.
Transport and storage
• The reagents and the test can be shipped and stored at 2-40ºC until expiration
date stated in the label.
• The resuspended positive control should be stored at -20ºC. To avoid repeated
freeze/thaw cycles, it is recommended to distribute the content in different aliquots.
• Keep all reagents in the darkness.
Additional equipment and material required
• Collection and transport system.
• DNA extraction kit
• Real-time PCR instrument (thermocycler) (Attached I)
• Centrifuge for 1.5 mL tubes
• Laboratory freezers (- 30°C to - 10°C and/or ≤ -70°C).
• Vortex
• Micropipettes (1-20 µL, 20-200 µL)
• Filter tips
• Powder-free disposal gloves
Summary
The emergence and spread of drug-resistant pathogens that have acquired new resistance mechanisms, leading to antimicrobial resistance, continues to threaten our ability to treat common infections. Carbapenems are a potent class of β-lactam antibiotics that are often used as “last-line agents” or “antibiotics of last resort” when infected patients become severely ill or are suspected of harboring resistant bacteria.
