NT-proBNP Rapid Quantitative Test (Chemiluminescence Immunoassay) is used for in vitro quantitative detection of the N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) concentration in human serum, plasma that contains heparin /EDTA and other anticoagulants and venous whole blood samples, mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis of cardiac diseases.
Product Detail
Application
B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a hormone produced by the human heart. N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is an inactive prohormone released by the same molecule that produces BNP.
NT-proBNP is released in response to changes in pressure within the heart. These changes may be associated with heart failure and other heart problems. Levels of NT-proBNP rise when heart failure occurs or worsens, and fall when heart failure is stable. Normally, only small amounts of NT-proBNP are found in the blood.
High levels of NT-proBNP may indicate that the heart is not pumping as much blood as the body needs. In most cases, patients with heart failure have higher levels of NT-proBNP than people with normal heart function. This condition is called heart failure, sometimes referred to as congestive heart failure.
The measurement of NT-proBNP levels is a useful diagnostic and prognostic tool for the evaluation and management of patients with suspected or known heart failure.
