Irving Silverman developed a bifid biopsy needle which is considered the "father" of all current tru-cut type biopsy needles. In 1958. Giorgio Menghini developed a vacuum assisted biopsy needle. Nowdays therapy choice is based according to biopsy results.

1. Insert the needle into reusable gun
2. Charge the needle
3. Localise the lesion and fire the gun by depressing the trigger
4. Remove the needle from the patient, recover the sample and dispose of the needle in a suitable sharps container.
