DOTFOX

DOTFOX was born from the insight and the desire of three young entrepreneurs from Siena: Alessandro, Lorenzo, and Filippo. Alessandro became a doctor, Filippo earned a post-graduate master's degree in Economics and Management, and Lorenzo a degree in Business administration with a master’s in European Business. But even before graduating in different fields, they became good friends. They’ve shared experiences in their everyday lives, competed with one another, learned to grow and develop, all while beginning to build their career paths which will lead them to one day become future leaders. Paving the way, with their eyes open to the world around them, one day they come up with an idea. Now DOTFOX was born.

HOW IT ALL CAME ABOUT

In September 2011, the provincial administration of Siena, in collaboration with Apslo (Provincial Agency for Local Development) and the Chamber of Commerce issued a competition notice for “Creative Siena”, a competition to promote youth entrepreneurship, helping participants turn business ideas into new ventures.

At the time, the three young entrepreneurs were already well on their way on their journey of innovation and had already patented and registered Suture-Kit, a functional, useful practice suturing kit. So they decided to enter it in the competition. Suture-Kit won second place in the competition, and with their winnings, Alessandro, Filippo and Lorenzo were able to bring their company to life. From here began the adventure of DOTFOX’s Suture-Kit, where a spontaneous and winning idea meets reality.

THE IDEA

With his direct experience in the field of medicine and above all in his university medical studies, Alessandro found something was missing; neither practice surgical suture devices nor model or study aids for learning practice manual techniques were available for students and young doctors. He found that the subject matter was covered much more in English-speaking countries whilst in Italy the use of study aids or models was infrequent, if not almost non-existent.

The three friends decided to embark on a project that would fill this void. And so began the journey into projects and drawings, in the search of the right materials to make and perfect a prototype for a practice surgical suture kit. Their idea was to create a training tool to help future doctors improve their surgical skills. Working together on the project, they wanted to design something that would not only satisfy their needs but also those of young doctors. With Suture-Kit, Alessandro, Filippo e Lorenzo have set out to design a kit to help future doctors learn the fundamentals of modern medicine.

THE MISSION

DOTFOX’s reference values are clear and simple: help train future doctors and provide them with small aids and tools that help them in their training and further education. In fact, we believe helping develop a new generation of competent medical leaders will inspire confidence in future patients who entrust their safety to them.
